In the early summer of 1791 Mozart was instructed by a "grey messenger" to compose a requiem. This requiem was to be Mozart’s last composition and became one of his most impressive and most famous works with lots of legends around it. In his deathbed he allegedly performed the „lacrimosa" together with friends.
Up to the present day the Requiem has remained one of Mozart´s most famous compositions, characterized by fear, hope, revolt and redemption.
Parts of the unfinished requiem were performed at Mozart’s own funeral ceremony, later the composition was completed by his student Franz Xaver Süßmayer from already existing drafts.
